If there was a tolerant Hogwarts founder, it was Helga Hufflepuff. It was important to her that the students in her house were loyal, helpful and fair. She didn't care whether they were great wizards or not. Hufflepuff's heraldic animal on its banner is the badger, which is considered calm and thoughtful.
The original licensed Hufflepuff flag shows the Hufflepuff coat of arms, a black badger on a yellow background. The Hufflepuff lettering can be read below the coat of arms.
