Horror Masks

What is the difference between a horror mask and a Halloween mask?

Horror masks differ from Halloween Masks primarily in their appearance. The horror mask comes in most cases with very little or completely without humor and instead comes up with gruesome, sometimes very graphic elements. A Halloween mask, on the other hand, can still turn out very funny despite its creepy feel - think of a classic ghost.

The horror mask doesn't claim to be funny at all, and instead stands out for its explicit depiction of violence and shock effects. By wearing a horror mask, the masked person wants to do one thing in addition to actually scaring people, namely shock them.

What makes a horror mask a horror mask?

A horror mask is successful when the sight of the mask triggers extreme discomfort, panic or disgust in your counterpart and he cannot withstand the sight of the horror mask for long without his innermost fears and protective reflexes sounding the alarm.

Graphic Horror Masks

There are various horror masks that trigger quite different effects in the viewer. Obvious horror masks, such as the bloody Fulci Zombie Mask, a goo covered alien mask or a horror mask that shows a torn face, are all graphic horror masks that usually provide the shock - and disgust effect through disfigured faces, monster grimaces or copious amounts of movie blood. Famous horror masks from this genre include zombie masks, werewolf masks and monster masks like the Frankenstein mask.

Subtle Horror Masks

Subtle horror masks, on the other hand, are masks that more or less do without the aforementioned disgusting effects, but still cause immediate panic in the viewer. Rigid, emotionless horror masks only provide the true horror through their coldness and motionlessness. Any personality and emotions are no longer visible to the horror mask, which takes away the possibility for the viewer of the horror mask to have an obvious effect on the mask wearer. Often a subtle horror mask is much worse in effect than an obvious horror mask of a monster. Many of the successful slasher horror films resort to expressionless and thus particularly merciless killers wearing a horror mask. The genre of subtle horror masks includes, for example, the Jason Ice Hockey Mask of Jason Voorhees from "Friday the 13th" the white, rigid Michael Myers Mask Halloween 2 or the creepy doll masks from the movie "The Strangers".

Horror masks that became a cult

Countless horror movies thrive on horror masks, some of which look terrible, while others have become classics in horror movie history due to subtle horror masks. You can't imagine some of the most famous movie characters without their corresponding horror mask. Many serial killers and mass murderers got their horrible identity through their mask.

The most famous horror masks of all time

With Halloween just around the corner, it's time once again for the most famous horror masks - and what better way to top the charts than with the white, rigid Michael Myers mask that, along with the Jason Hockey mask from the movie "Friday the 13th," terrified an entire generation of movie fans. Other classic horror masks include the Bleeding Scream Mask from Wes Craven's "Scream", the Billy ventriloquist horror mask from the torture horror movie "Saw" and of course not to forget the Leatherface mask "The new generation" from the movie " Texas Chainsaw Massacre".

Horror masks that are mistakenly disregarded

In addition to the classics listed above, there are still horror masks that are not associated with fear and terror in the first place, and yet these as horror masks provide a part of the people downright for anxiety. The clown mask is one of the masks that many people judge as a horror mask. Puppet masks and children's masks are named equally. Animal Masks brings up the rear among horror masks. You see, even with these mundane masks you can scare someone properly! It is always a matter of the right horror mask, which must be used at the right time in the right place. So almost every mask can become an absolute horror mask.
