Masks for all occasions like Halloween, Carnival, LARP or Fasnacht

Masks have been used since time immemorial and through all history books and eras to hide one's own face behind a larva and thus remain unrecognized or to slip into the role of a foreign character with masks.

Historical origin of masks

The word mask comes from the Arabic word maskharat, which means teasing or joking by a fool. Finds of stone masks dating back to 7000 BC show us that even then masks were used for theatrical performances, art and religious rituals. Throughout different cultures, masks have always been a means to an end, celebrating various festivities and rituals. In this country, the best known use of masks is in carnival and fasching, which have their origins in the Perchten masks. The hand-carved Perchten masks are found mainly in southern Germany and Austria.

Today's purpose of masks

Today, masks for certain professions such as firefighters and police can also be found in areas of chemistry and medicine, used there mainly as protective masks. Today, however, the majority of masks are produced for the entertainment sector such as Halloween, carnival and fancy dress as well as for the film and theatre industry. This occupational field also gave rise to the occupational title of make-up artist, whose field of work includes not only make-up but also the production of masks, some of which are quite complex.

Effect of masks

Together with the right mask, a matching costume becomes really effective. A mask not only gives your costume character the look he or she might need, but is actually essential for some appearances because the mask is the character's actual identifying factor. For example, what would the Venetian carnival be without its Venetian Masks Venetian carnival masks

, which make it a unique event, or the elegant costume ball at the court of kings, where the ladies all hide behind mysterious larvae and half masks to increase the appeal of the unknown?

Masks in horror movies

The wearing of masks in horror films is the same, with many a serial killer hiding his face behind a mask, leaving the audience to guess who is behind the mask until the end. Countless examples like the legendary hockey mask of Jason Voorhees or the Scream mask from the horror movie Scream are the best proof that with the right Horror Masks you can also create goosebumps.

Animal masks

One of the most popular masks are masks that are modeled after animals. Animal Masks are used on many occasions and are especially popular with children. They love to see actors at a fairy tale or theatre performance who wear animal masks and can communicate with a human voice despite the mask. The mostly funny looking or very realistically produced animal masks can be used in school lessons and kindergarten as well as for a children's birthday party or fancy dress ball.

Masks for carnival & fasching

With a funny carnival mask for carnival and Fasnacht you are quickly masked without having to spend hours on make-up. This is probably the main reason why many carnival revellers prefer wearing masks to make-up. However, wearing a mask also has some disadvantages that we want to point out. Under a mask you sweat very easily, the view is partly drastically limited by the mask, which in any case forbids you to drive a car and the communication with other carnival participants is by far more difficult. So wearing a mask from the mask shop has advantages, but also disadvantages.

Halloween masks & horror masks

Halloween and horror masks are primarily made to scare people and create a creepy atmosphere at your Halloween party. The masks that are made for Halloween and horror fans are usually bloody, brutal and disgusting to look at and are based on such classic motifs as the witch mask, the devil mask or well-known monsters such as Frankenstein and Dracula. A nasty Halloween Masks is not necessarily everyone's cup of tea and you should carefully consider who, and especially what age group, you are scaring! Rough horror masks are definitely not suitable for visiting a Halloween party for children.

Different materials of masks

The days when masks were made of stone are long gone. The same applies to masks that are carved out of wood. The so-called Perchtenmasken from wood are made today only occasionally as real showpieces by hand, which justifies the price for it, from a few hundred to a few thousand euros.
The conventional masks for carnival, Halloween and carnival are made of various materials such as fabric, papier-mâché, vinyl, latex or foam latex and silicone. Depending on the quality and workmanship, the masks cost between a few euros to professional masks specially made by make-up artists, for up to a thousand euros.

Choosing the right mask for the right price and occasion is up to you. We are sure - by our huge offer of masks - to lead also something for your requirement in the program and are pleased if you send us a photo with you and your mask as masking.
